One of my first jobs was working in refugee camps on the Thai Cambodian border. My job was interviewing refugees wanting to go to America. I heard tragic stories of life under the Pol Pot regime.

I also worked with CARE International  distributing food to mothers and children. You can see me in the yellow circle.

Tamil Nadu, India: With Kali, a famous Irula tribe snake expert and the person featured in this children’s book ”Kali and the Rat Snake” about when he captured a snake at his school and became a hero.

Kali, the Irula tribe member guide who took us to looked for snakes, finds a Russell’s viper — the snake responsible for the most snake bite death in India.

I realize the Russell’s viper is as scared of me as I am of it. With no getting away, it just coiled itself and hissed and hissed.

Kali’s wife, Kumari, is leaning to handle a krait snake the most poisonous snake in India. Kali tracked down the snake by following its “tracks” in the rice field. I couldn’t see any tracks at all!
